Making your own rose water at home is a simple and delightful process. Here's a DIY rose water recipe with measurements for ingredients:
DIY Rose Water:
Ingredients:
- Fresh (about 2 cups), or dried (about 1 cup) Rose Petals
- Distilled water (enough to cover the rose petals)
- Ice cubes
- Essential oils (optional for added fragrance)
Instructions:
1. Harvest Rose Petals:
- Use pesticide-free roses. Harvest the petals from about 6-8 roses. Make sure they are clean and free from any chemicals.
- If you are unable to harvest fresh petals, you can use dried.
2. Rinse the Petals (for fresh):
- Gently rinse the rose petals under running water to remove any dirt or debris.
3. Prepare a Pot with a Lid:
- Place a heat-resistant bowl upside down in the center of a large pot. This will act as a support for the smaller bowl that will collect the rose water.
4. Add Rose Petals:
- Place the rose petals around the inverted bowl in the large pot. Add enough distilled water to the pot to cover the rose petals.
5. Cover and Simmer:
- Put the lid on the pot upside down, covering the petals. Turn on the heat to a low simmer. Allow the water to steam and collect in the inverted lid, then drip down into the smaller bowl. Simmer for about 25-30 minutes.
6. Collect the Rose Water:
- Once the rose water has collected in the smaller bowl, turn off the heat. Carefully lift the lid, being cautious of the hot steam, and you'll find the collected rose water.
7. Strain and Cool:
- Strain the rose water to remove any leftover petals. Allow it to cool completely.
8. Add Essential Oils:
- If you want to enhance the fragrance, you can add a few drops of your favorite essential oil, such as rose essential oil.
9. Bottle the Rose Water:
- Pour the rose water into a clean, sterilized glass bottle or spray bottle. Keep it in the refrigerator for a longer shelf life.
How to Use:
- Use the DIY rose water as a facial toner, in a bath, as a hair mist, or as a refreshing spray throughout the day.
Note: Always perform a patch test when using any new skincare product, and discontinue use if irritation occurs. Homemade rose water doesn't have preservatives, so store it in the refrigerator and use it within a few weeks.
